When people think of Jeju in autumn, Hallasan's foliage or Seongsan's silver grass fields usually come to mind first. Yet deep inside a gotjawal forest in Jocheon-eup, a steam-locomotive-style train moves slowly through scenery that is just as striking — and far quieter. Ecoland is often described simply as a train-themed park, but in autumn the experience is something different.
Why October in Particular
October is when autumn feels most concentrated at Ecoland. Visitor accounts consistently note that silver grass sways past the carriage windows during this period, while patches of autumn colour begin to show between the trees. Ecoland's official channels have described the experience this way: "As the train moves slowly along, autumn scenery unfolds at every turn, with no shortage of spots worth photographing." The combination of cosmos and silver grass in this season is cited as one of the park's signature seasonal draws each year.
Lavender Farm Station: The October Highlight

Ecoland has four stations in total, each with its own distinct scenery. Of these, Lavender Farm Station — the final stop — is at its best in October. Multiple visitor accounts report that the open meadow there is in full bloom with golden sulfur cosmos (*Cosmos sulphureus*) and pink impatiens at their peak. Simply standing in front of the flower field is enough to frame a photograph.
Beyond the blooms, head toward the meadow area, where an animal interaction space lets visitors spend time with alpacas, goats, and ponies. Families travelling with children will find plenty to occupy them at this station alone.
Don't Skip the Gotjawal Forest Trail
Travelling only by train leaves part of the park unseen. Inside Ecoland, an ecological walking path called the ECO Road runs through the gotjawal forest — a stretch of primeval woodland growing over Jeju's characteristic volcanic bedrock. Two route options are available (a shorter course and a longer one), though exact distances and walking times are best confirmed on-site or through the official website before you go. In October the forest is at low humidity with temperatures well suited to walking, making the trail itself a form of rest.

Practical Notes Before You Visit
October is peak season, and visitor numbers increase notably on weekends. Arriving early in the morning gives you a more relaxed pace through each station. Because the train operates as a hop-on, hop-off service, the standard approach is to spend as long as you like at Lavender Farm Station and then reboard to return.
Online ticket purchases are often cheaper than buying at the gate, so it is worth checking the official website or affiliated booking channels before your visit. If you hold a Jeju Ol Pass, check whether any additional benefits apply to Ecoland entry.
October at Ecoland rewards a slower pace. Matching the train's unhurried speed, watching the landscape pass outside the window — that rhythm is already part of what a Jeju autumn trip can be.
