June at Mindungsan: Korea's Switzerland Where Purple Wildflower Carpets Unfold Over Green Meadows

While Mindungsan is known only for its autumn silver grass, it reveals a completely different face in June. You can experience the feeling of being in the Swiss Alps on carpets woven from lush green grass and purple wildflowers.

Standing atop the 1,119m summit of Mindungsan, I couldn't believe the scenery unfolding before my eyes. Green carpets stretched endlessly across the wide-open ridges without a single tree, with purple wildflowers blooming here and there throughout. This mountain, named for being 'bare and barren' due to the lack of trees around its summit, transforms into such a beautiful meadow in June.

Why June is Peak Season: The Harmony of Green and Purple

While Mindungsan typically brings autumn silver grass to mind, June's Mindungsan offers completely different charms. Lush grass and wildflowers spread like carpets, where you can encounter various wildflowers such as orange daylily, thistle, and wild aster. The sight of purple wildflowers embroidered across the green carpet is particularly like a painting drawn by nature itself.

The summit offers unobstructed views and panoramas in all directions, with blue ridges spreading out reminiscent of Windows wallpapers or Swiss meadows. Thanks to the absence of trees, you can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views, making it easy to understand why many hikers call this place 'Korea's Switzerland.'

Things to Do at Mindungsan in June

The most popular activity is undoubtedly picnicking at the summit. The feeling of spreading out a mat on the wide meadow, eating packed lunch while enjoying the cool breeze is pure healing. Photographing wildflowers is another unmissable pleasure, with purple daylilies and thistles serving as particularly Instagram-worthy photo spots.

Good Tips to Know

June at Mindungsan can have large temperature differences between day and night, so it's good to bring light outerwear. The summit can be particularly windy, so pack at least a thin windbreaker in your backpack. Since it's peak wildflower season, it would be wise to prepare extra camera or smartphone batteries.

Weekends can be crowded with hikers, so if you want a leisurely hike, weekdays or early morning hours are recommended. Starting early in the morning allows you to enjoy morning dew sparkling in the sunlight along with wildflowers, making for an even more special experience.
