What Time Should You Set Out
The round trip to the summit takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes. Working backward from the 7:30 PM sunset, plan to leave the trailhead no later than 7:00 PM. In midsummer the slopes demand more energy than they appear to, and you will sweat more than expected. Heading up in the late afternoon — rather than under the midday sun — is better both for pacing yourself and for the quality of light you will encounter.
Why Take the Western Trail
The trails split into two main routes: eastern and western. The western trail connects directly to a ridge viewpoint overlooking Biyangdo Island, making it the more rewarding choice if sunset is your goal. Bear in mind that the western route is noticeably steeper than the eastern one.
