Why September
Seokmun Park sits in Doam-myeon, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do. If you arrive expecting gentle paved walkways and park benches, the landscape will surprise you from the first step: jagged rock faces rise through dense forest, and a suspension bridge hangs quietly between two peaks. The park is nicknamed "the Sogeumgang of the South" — a comparison to the famously scenic Sogeumgang valley — and the terrain earns that reputation in person.
September is neither cherry-blossom season nor autumn foliage season, but that is precisely what makes it a good time to visit. Once the summer humidity clears and the sky opens up, the rock formations and forest contours read most sharply. Spring flower crowds and early-summer holiday visitors have thinned out, leaving the car park and trails noticeably quieter. The deep green of the hillsides — just before autumn colour begins — photographs clearly, and the gorge views from the bridge are unobstructed.
Sarang+Gureum Dari (Love+Cloud Bridge) — More Dramatic Than the Name Suggests
The bridge's Korean name, Sarang+Gureum Dari, might suggest a decorative footbridge tucked into a park path. In reality it is a 111-metre-long, 1.5-metre-wide suspension structure crossing the gorge between Mandeoksan and Seokmunsan at a height of approximately 150 metres. A transparent floor panel runs through the middle section, so each step offers an unobstructed view straight down into the gorge below. The romantic name comes from the heart-shaped photo zones installed at each end of the bridge, including a sculpted couple-kissing motif. At the midpoint, a small rest plaza lets visitors pause and take in the gorge scenery without rushing across. The bridge is engineered to limit excessive sway, which means older visitors and families with children can cross without significant difficulty.
Choosing Your Route — Bridge Only, or Into the Hills
If the bridge is your sole objective, it is roughly 200–300 metres from the car park — about a 15-minute walk. Provincial Road 55 passes beneath the bridge, which actually makes access straightforward. Crossing the bridge and returning is a satisfying outing on its own, but if time allows, the trails reward further exploration.
The most popular loop starts at the ranger station, passes Nojeokbong peak, crosses the bridge, continues to the Sejong Rock photo point, and returns to the park entrance — around one hour with minimal elevation gain. A full 7-kilometre round-trip course called the Nubigil Trail extends to Tongcheonmun Gate and takes approximately three hours. Gradients are gentle throughout and trail markers are reported to be clearly posted, so first-time visitors are unlikely to lose their way.

September Visit Tips
Weekend mornings between 10 a.m. and noon tend to attract group tours, so arriving early in the morning or choosing a weekday gives you the bridge largely to yourself. Wear trainers or sturdy shoes as a minimum — some visitors experience mild vertigo when looking down through the glass floor panels. As with any mountain suspension bridge, strong wind days will increase the bridge's movement, so check local weather before you go.
